Zurich, Switzerland: With one week left to go in the current round of voting, the 21 cities competing in the Finalist stages of the worldwide New7Wonders Cities campaign are lining up for the next big qualification milestone. On 7 October, the Finalist cities will be reduced to 14, with one third leaving the campaign, and two thirds proceeding to compete for the coveted New7Wonders Cities crowns on 7 December.
Commenting on this, Eamonn Fitzgerald, spokesperson of New7Wonders, said: “It is incredible to see how this global campaign started with more than 1,200 cities and will soon be down to just 14 competing in the final straight to be chosen as one of the New7Wonders Cities. Most of all, it is the daily change of positions that shows how dynamic and exciting this campaign is. We are expecting a photo-finish on 7 October.”
In alphabetical order, the 21 Official Finalists are: Bangkok, Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, Havana, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, London, Mendoza, Mexico City, Mumbai, Perth, Quito, Reykjavik, Saint Petersburg, Seoul, Shenzhen and Vigan.
As with all New7Wonders campaigns, voting is via www.new7wonders.com, via the iPhone and Android apps, via the international telephone voting lines, and, where available, via national SMS. Voting will pause at 7am GMT on 7 October, and in the following hours the data will be processed in time to announce the 14 Finalists at exactly 7pm GMT on 7 October, when voting will once again resume. The Official New7Wonders Cities will be revealed on 7 December 2014.
