To mark the official 7 Wonders Day, celebrated on 7 July every year around the world, Machu Picchu organises the highest-ever altitude recreation of a giant human number “7”.
With this striking visual, Machu Picchu honours the world’s first-ever global vote to elect the New 7 Wonders of the World, a campaign organised by the Zurich-based New 7 Wonders Foundation, on the 17th anniversary of their declaration. Chosen by over 100 million votes, the New 7 Wonders of the World are, in alphabetical order, Chichén Itzá of Mexico, the Colosseum of Italy, Cristo Redentor of Brazil, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu of Peru, Petra of Jordan and the Taj Mahal of India.
Bernard Weber, the President and Founder of New7Wonders, says “The symbolism of the giant human 7, composed by people standing together to form the shape, reminds us that the New 7 Wonders of the World were also chosen by people, the world’s first and largest global voting campaign, becoming part of the making of history”.
The official Representative Advisor of New7Wonders for Peru, and organiser of the historic giant human 7, Juan César Zubiate, adds “From the top of the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, the heart of Peru itself, we send our congratulations and the positive energy of New7Wonders to all our sister Wonders across the world on this historic day.”
