Zurich/Switzerland 10 June 2011: Korea Telecom (KT), the nation’s leading telephone company, is now an Official Finalist Supporter platinum sponsor of Jeju Island in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign.

Announcing the sponsorship, New7Wonders Director Jean-Paul de la Fuente said: “We are delighted to have KT on board as a sponsor of Jeju Island, not only because they are market leaders, but also because they are actively supporting the sponsorship in all their activities, including committing to build Korea’s first 4G network on Jeju Island itself – making it the first fully digitalised island in the world.”

Dr. Hansuk Kim, Senior Executive Vice President of Korea Telecom said: “KT sees this sponsorship as bringing not only benefits to Jeju Island, but also in the way that South Korea is seen in the world. As a company we believe in innovation and being at the front end of our industry, and this sponsorship is the perfect platform for us to showcase this.”

Jeju Island is one of 28 Finalists in the global 1 billion votes campaign to choose the Official New7Wonders of Nature. A recent study by Grant Thornton has confirmed that being successful in the campaign does not only generate hundreds of millions of dollars of image, promotional and marketing value, but also specifically over US$ 1 billion in actual economic value in the first five years alone. For this reason leading companies see becoming New7Wonders Official Finalist Supporters as bringing both marketing and economic benefits to their brands and businesses.
