“Jeju, for New 7 Wonders Campaign” is the title of the photo exhibition currently on display in the Blue House or Cheongwadae, the official residence of the President of the Republic of Korea. The Supporting Committee of the Jeju Island New7Wonders Campaign used the occasion to propose Korea’s First Lady, Kim Yoon-ok, as Honorary Chairperson of the committee and she accepted today.  

“This is a very significant and meaningful in not only increasing tourism in Jeju but also raising national pride,” Kim said. “As the National Supporting Committee is doing best to raise public awareness and support for Jeju, it will enhance the national and global community’s support and interest.”

The First Lady also took part in telephone voting for Jeju with other dignitaries, including Chung Un-chan (Chairman of National Commission for JejuN7W), Woo Geun-min (Governor of Jeju), Mo Chul-min (Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Culture), Moon Dae-rim (Jeju Assembly Chairman), Lee Ki-jo (Joong Ang University Professor), Honorary Ambassadors (Koh Doo-shim, Kim Tae-hee, Han Jae-seok, Chae Rim, Park Sun-young) and Yang Won-chan (Secretary General of National Commission).

Kim Yoon-ok was born in 1947 and after attending Daegu Girls’ High School she graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in Health Education and Management. Known as a talented cook among her family and friends, she recently wrote a Korean cookbook for English speakers, “Hansik: Stories of Korean Food”.
