Zurich/Switzerland — Media reports are abuzz that Yushan, one of the elite 28 Finalists in the Official New7Wonders of Nature campaign, is suddenly receiving support from a swelling movement amongst Chinese students at universities across the planet.
Spearheaded by students in Indonesia and Malaysia, the call is resonating with young Chinese around the world, who are holding celebrations and showcasing Yushan traditions as part of their efforts.
According to media reports, a group of students is even planning to climb Yushan, which varies from subtropical rainforest at its base to rugged, alpine conditions higher up near the peaks some 4,000 metres, or more than 13,000 feet, above sea level. Fundraising events will finance their climb, for which they want to take less than one week—an impressive and ambitious goal to raise global awareness of Yushan, also known as Jade Mountain.
