In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a Strategic Agreement has been signed between the Government of Loreto Region in Peru and New7Wonders. The agreement was formalized during the recent inaugural New7Wonders of Nature Congress in Iguazu, Argentina, and is being announced today in Zurich (headquarters of New7Wonders) and Iquitos (capital of the Loreto Region in Peru).
The Strategic Agreement outlines certain collaboration objectives and mutual interest opportunities between New7Wonders and Loreto in the following key areas:
• intellectual property development;
• New7Wonders and Amazon/Peru brand partnership;
• marketing and sustainable tourism;
• infrastructure, entertainment and residential opportunities.
Announcing the Strategic Agreement, Ivan Vasquez Valera, President of Loreto Region, said: “Loreto Region is committed to a radical and ambitious programme of development, and this historic Strategic Agreement allows us to work with the New7Wonders know-how and unique brand values to help deliver that programme.”
Commenting on the Strategic Agreement, Jean-Paul de la Fuente, New7Wonders Director, said: “Already many independent studies have proven the profound and positive economic impact of New7Wonders, and with this Strategic Agreement with Loreto Region in Peru we are taking this one step further by actively participating in creating these economic and social development opportunities.”
Loreto covers almost one-third of Peru’s territory and is the country’s largest region. Its capital is the city of Iquitos. Loreto was also the Official Support Committee for the Amazon/Peru in the New7Wonders of Nature campaign.
