Zurich/Switzerland — From one side of the world to the other, sports legends are calling on fans to participate in the global vote now choosing the Official New7Wonders of Nature. In Argentina, soccer legend Diego Maradona and his players, one of the most successful teams in the world, call on fans to support Iguazu Falls. In Korea, Seoul-born Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward is now an Official New7Wonders Ambassador for Jeju Island.
Iguazu Falls and Jeju Island are amongst the 28 Official Finalists in the race to elect the Official New7Wonders of the World. These elite 28 were chosen by the people of the world from more than 440 nominees.
At the opening of last week’s friendly match against Haiti, Diego Maradona and his Albicelestes called on fans to vote for Iguazu Falls, on the Argentine-Brazilian border. The two-time FIFA World Champion team is now ranked 7th worldwide as they head toward the World Cup in South Africa this summer.
Korean-American football hero Hines Ward votes for Jeju and praises its natural beauty. The three-time Steelers Most Valuable Player, whose mother is Korean and father African-American, was in Korea over Mother’s Day. In 2006, Hines Ward became the first Korean-American to win the Super Bowl MVP award. In a ceremony announcing him as Official New7Wonders Ambassador, Hines said he hoped people everywhere would discover the beauty of Jeju and vote for it.
