The announcement that Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) has been officially confirmed as one of the New7Wonders of Nature was welcomed across the entire spectrum of the media in the Philippines.

The Official Gazette: “Confirmation that the Puerto Princesa Underground River is one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature is welcome news indeed. Throughout the competition, Filipinos from all walks of life have given time, energy, and resources to this campaign,” said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.

The Manila Times: “THE Philippines’ Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) is officially among the world’s new 7 wonders of nature (N7WN) based on the results of a global poll, Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn on Saturday. Hagedorn said the inclusion of the 17-kilometer underground river ‘will boost not only tourism traffic in Puerto Princesa but also heighten the awareness on the need to protect the natural wonder.'”

GMA NEWS: Now that the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) is officially part of the New Seven Wonders of Nature, the government should consider dropping mining in Palawan in favor of promoting tourism there. The suggestion came Sunday from Puerto Princesa Bishop Pedro Arigo, who said the PPUR’s status stresses the need to conserve and protect the environment. ‘We don’t need mining because tourism alone, using the pristine beauty of nature of Palawan creates livelihood for the people without destroying the environment,’ Arigo said at the sidelines of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines’ ongoing plenary assembly in Manila.”

ABS-CBN News: “PPUR, pormal na idineklara bilang isa sa Wonders of Nature: Pormal nang idineklara ang panalo ng Puerto Princesa Underground River sa Palawan bilang isa sa mga New Seven Wonders of Nature. Nagpa-Patrol, Niko Baua. TV Patrol, Enero 28, 2012, Sabado.”

Zambo Times: “Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo lauded Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn and local government executives on Saturday for their all-out support which resulted in the official declaration of the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.”

Yahoo! News Philippines: “Puerto Princesa Underground River officially in New7wonders: The astonishing Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in Palawan is officially one of the New7wonders of nature, authorities said Saturday… This news might boost Philippine tourism and comes just weeks after the Department of Tourism unveiled its new tourism slogan ‘It’s more fun in the Philippines,’ to attract more foreign travelers.”

Tempo: “The Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) has taken a top spot in the New 7 Wonders of Nature (N7WN) contest. N7WN president Dr. Bernard Weber made the formal announcement during a press briefing at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City last Saturday. Weber thanked Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward S. Hagedorn for marshalling the active participation of Filipinos in ensuring the victory of PPUR in the tightly-contested race among unique places in all regions of the world.”
