Zurich/Switzerland — Sundarbans, one of the 28 Official Finalists in the one-billion-vote Official New7Wonders of Nature global campaign, has received support of the highest levels.
Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh agreed to work together to support the Sundarbans bid during their summit meeting last week. Several media reports have confirmed that the two countries plan to intensify their cooperation in support of the Sundarbans campaign.
Together, India and Bangladesh represent some 1.3 billion people, or around one-sixth of our planet’s population. The principle of direct democracy, at the core of the New7Wonders global campaigns, is well established in both countries — the call to action can result in a resounding response that will ripple far beyond the borders of Bangladesh and India.
